Huskers Grab Three Event Titles, Fall to No. 25 Maryland in Narrow Duel

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team fell to Maryland 196.050-195.900 on Friday at the XFINITY Center.

The Huskers moved to 4-5 (2-4 Big Ten) on the season, while Maryland improved to 7-3 (3-3 Big Ten).

Whitney Jencks grabbed the all-around title with a 39.225. Jencks also earned a share of the vault title (9.900) and the bars title (9.825). Isabel Sikon shared the vault title with Jencks with a 9.900 and took second in the all-around with a 39.175. As a team, Nebraska had five career highs in the contest.

Rotation One
The Huskers kicked off the evening on bars, notching a 48.800. Jencks (9.825) and Peterson led the way for NU. Nya Kraus (9.750), Sikon (9.725) and Karys Griffin (9.700) rounded out the rotation.

Rotation Two
Behind two career-high 9.900s from Jencks and Sikon, Nebraska earned a season-high 49.375 team score on vault. Tegan Shaver (9.875) and Griffin (9.850) both followed with career marks of their own for the Big Red. Reese Baechle (9.850) finished out the lineup.

Rotation Three
Nebraska continued the night with a 49.200 on floor. Kraus (9.875) and Jencks (9.875) led the way, a career best from Kraus on the event. Lauren Homecillo (9.850) and Sikon (9.825) followed for NU. Baechle (9.775) finished the rotation.

Rotation Four
NU concluded the contest on beam, posting a 48.525. Kraus (9.775) and Olivia Burns (9.775) both led the way. Sikon (9.725), Jencks (9.625) and Allie Gard (9.625) concluded the competition.

Up Next
The Huskers will travel to University Park, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 28 to compete in the Big Fours at Rec Hall. The meet is slated to begin at 5 p.m. (CT) and will feature No. 9 Michigan, No. 19 Penn State and Washington. The meet will be streamed on the Big Ten Network.
