Huskers Upset No. 14 Minnesota in Conference Showdown

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team upset No. 14 Minnesota on Saturday, 195.600-195.075, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The Huskers moved to (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) on the season, while Minnesota fell to (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten). This marked the first time Nebraska defeated the Golden Gophers in a regular season dual meet since 2018.

Isabel Sikon captured the all-around title for NU with a 39.000, with Nya Kraus also earning the beam title with a 9.875. As a team, Nebraska notched five career highs and four season highs in the contest.

Rotation One
The Huskers kicked off the evening on vault, notching a 48.850 as a squad. Karys Griffin notched a career-high 9.800 and Molly Peterson earned a 9.800 to lead the team. Peyton Pech (9.775), Isabel Sikon (9.750) and Reese Baechle (9.725) finished out the lineup. This marked Peterson’s first time on vault in her collegiate career.

Rotation Two
Nebraska continued the night with a 48.975 on bars. Olivia Burns registered a 9.850 to lead the event. Sikon (9.825) and Whitney Jencks (9.800) followed for NU. Peterson (9.775) and Griffin (9.725) rounded out the rotation. Burns, Sikon and Griffin all earned career marks in the event.

Rotation Three
Behind a 9.875 from Nya Kraus, NU notched a 49.075 on beam. Sikon and Homecillo both notched a 9.825 to follow for the Huskers. Jencks (9.775) and Allie Gard (9.725) finished the lineup. Kraus, Sikon, Jencks and Gard all secured season highs on the event.

Rotation Four
NU concluded the contest on floor, posting a 48.425. Homecillo led the way with a 9.850. Jencks (9.775), Baechle (9.750) and Gard (9.725) followed for the Huskers. Sikon (9.600) concluded the competition.

NU will be back at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, Jan. 31 to host No. 19 Ohio State. The meet is set to begin at 3 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+.
