The Nebraska swimming and diving team will try to divide and conquer Big Ten foes Illinois and Iowa in a unique double-double dual format this weekend.
The Husker swimmers will travel to Champaign–Urbana to square off with Illinois in two days of competition against the Fighting Illini and the Iowa Hawkeyes at the ARC Pool.
Meanwhile, the Big Red divers will battle the Hawkeyes and Illini in the well at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City.
Swimming will begin on Friday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. (CT) and continue at 10 a.m. (CT) on Saturday. Diving will start at 4 p.m. (CT) on Friday, before resuming competition at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The teams are well acquainted this season after the Hawkeye Invitational in mid-November, where Nebraska captured its fourth straight title, accumulating 1,281.5 points over the week. The Hawkeyes finished in third with 1,059 points, while the Fighting Illini worked their way to a fourth-place finish with 934 points.
The Scarlet and Cream is coming off a successful team training trip to Delray, Fla., and several strong showings in international competition.
Beatrix Tanko and Gena Jorgenson worked toward several records at the Hawkeye Invite. Tanko worked her way to three Nebraska program records in the 50 free (22.17), 100 fly (52.03) and the 100 free (48.75). Her swim in the 100 fly was enough for a first-place time. Jorgenson holds the meet record for the 1,650 free at the invite with a time of 16:00.01 and a first-place finish.
Jorgenson led off the team of Riley Miklos, Giulia Marchi and Tanko in the 800 free relay to an NCAA provisional cut time of 7:04.78 with a split time of 1:46.34. It marked the first time since 1990 that Nebraska has garnered a cut time in the event.
Kelsey Clairmont and Abby Baxter earned their bids to the Zone D Diving Championships on the platform. Clairmont scored a 267.80 to reach second, and Webb harnessed a second-place prelim score of 240.25.
MeetMobile and Hytek will have live results available for the swimming competition. Diving results will be updated on DiveMeets.
