Huskers Grab Second in Ameritas Masters Classic

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team grabbed second at the Ameritas Masters Classic at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.

Whitney Jencks claimed the all-around title with a 38.575. Isabel Sikon finished second in the all-around with a 38.450.

No. 2 Missouri took first in the event with a 197.275, followed by Nebraska with a 194.600. UW-La Crosse took third with a 192.075 and UW-Stout finished in fourth with a 184.675.

Rotation One
The Huskers kicked off the evening on vault, notching a 49.025 as a team. Reese Baechle and Isabel Sikon both notched a 9.850 to lead the way for NU. Tegan Shaver earned a 9.800 in her college debut. Whitney Jencks (9.750) and Karys Griffin (9.750) rounded out the lineup.

Rotation Two
Nebraska continued the night with a 48.750 on bars. Jencks and Molly Peterson both scored a 9.800, followed by Isabel Sikon (9.725) and Olivia Burns (9.725). Griffin finished the rotation for the Big Red with a 9.650. This marked Peterson’s first collegiate competition after returning from injury.

Rotation Three
Behind a career-high 9.800 from Lauren Homecillo and a 9.800 from Burns, NU notched a 48.000 on beam. Sikon (9.650), Kraus (9.575) and Jencks (9.175) finished out the scoring.

Rotation Four
NU concluded the contest on floor, posting a 48.825. Sikon, Jencks and Homecillo all notched a 9.825. Baechle (9.750) and Kraus (9.600) concluded the competition.

Up Next
NU will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, Jan. 17 to kick off Big Ten competition against No. 1 UCLA. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. (CT).
