Huskers Add Two Bowlers on National Signing Day

Lincoln, Neb. - The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team has announced the additions of Taylor Kretz and Maggie Porter during the first day of the fall signing period. Kretz and Porter will join the Huskers in Fall of 2026.

Taylor Kretz, Erie, Pa.

"Taylor will make a great addition to our team. She loves all things Huskers and really dreamt of playing for our bowling program." Head Coach Paul Klempa of Kretz. "Taylor will be our first two-handed player and adds some diversity to our lineup. She is an accomplished player nationally, and we are excited to have her join the team in 2026."

Kretz, a native of Erie, Pa., is a seasoned bowler with plenty of accolades.  She is 2025 Junior Team USA member and was a PBA Junior National Qualifier. During the 2024-25 season, she averaged 230.1 pins per game and is a three-time Metro League Bowler of the Year.

"I chose Nebraska because becoming a Husker has always been a dream for me." Kretz said. "My coach, (Mike Shady) attended Nebraska, and he has been a very big supporter in my life. When I had my college visit in September of 2024, I knew that day I wanted to be a Husker."

Maggie Porter, Cambridge, Wis.

"Maggie is a great addition to our team for the class of 2026. She is an accomplished player and will fit in really well with the team." Klempa said of Porter. "Maggie is left handed, which increases our options for lineups during competition. We expect Maggie to have a solid career at Nebraska and are thankful she will be a Husker."

Porter, a lefty bowler hailing from Fort Atkinson, Wis., brings valuable experience to the program. She was the 2024 High School Bowling National Champion and state champion, and is a two-time Wisconsin Pepsi champion. In her four years at Sun Prairie High School Bowling Club, Porter earned a number of honors including MVP, Player of the Year and was a three-time Singles District Champion (2023, 2024 and 2025).

"I chose Nebraska because everyone around is welcoming, they have strong academic programs and I feel could be great balance between student life and personal growth." Porter said. "Nebraska is a place where I feel like I am able to challenge myself academically while still feeling supported by others. When I toured, I didn't feel like just another number, and I felt seen in the best ways possible."
