Dr. Robert Cox served as the POW/MIA Chair Sentinel on October 25, 2025 as Nebraska Football took on Northwestern.
A former Corproal who served in the United States Army, Dr. Cox is a native of Thurston, Neb., and enlisted in the Army after his 17th birthday. He served two years in the Phillippines in the 738 Military Police Battalion. As World War II was comind to an end, Robert was responsible for guarding the prisoners of war from 1946 to 1948. Robert was joined by his wife, Helen Ann, and they have been married for over 68 years and happily live in Norfolk, Neb.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Governor Jim Pillen and the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs are honoring the state's living World War II veterans with a special medal. During the game, veteran Robert Cox became the 163rd World War II veteran to receive this honor.
