Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule met with members of the media to preview Saturday’s game against Northwestern. He discussed how the offense avoids sacks.

“Everybody doing their job at a high level,” he said. “The sacks in the previous games have thrown us out of rhythm. It’s you vs. him. You have to block the guy in front of you. You also have to get the play call. It’s just inefficient to play good teams.”

Rhule talked about trying different strategies on the offensive line.

“We don’t go out and block the blitzes they’ve run. We block the blitzes that they run. We block the blitzes that we’re seeing that people are giving us. We have rules for everything. It’s going to come down to our players making plays. I think that’s the greatest gift you can give as a coach. When things go run, it’s your job to say, “Hey, that’s on us.” I think they know that players win games and they have to go make blocks and they have to do things at a really high level against a really high level Northwestern team.”

He also spoke on the week of practice.

“I don’t think they took the gas off for practice. I never felt that way last week, I don’t feel that way this week. They’ve practiced at a high level. Practiced a little differently last week since it was a short week. The best thing they can do is what I’ve done last week and only think about it when you guys ask about it. Just try to move forward, but understanding that what happened last week has to spur us forward.”

Kickoff between the Huskers and the Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 25, is set for 11 a.m. (CT) and will be televised on FS1. The game can also be heard on Huskers Radio Network.
