LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team finished off a perfect non-conference slate with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 sweep of Arizona in front of 8,625 at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.
The Huskers improved to 10-0 to go undefeated in non-conference play for the third time since joining the Big Ten in 2011. Arizona fell to 6-4.
Harper Murray finished with 14 kills on .333 hitting, and Virginia Adriano added nine kills on .438 hitting. Andi Jackson also recorded nine kills and hit .389. Taylor Landfair and Rebekah Allick had eight and seven kills, respectively. Allick hit .538 and added two blocks.
Bergen Reilly had 40 assists, six digs and five kills. Olivia Mauch led all players with 11 digs, and Laney Choboy had seven.
As a team NU hit .392, its second-best offensive outing of the season. Arizona hit .250. Jordan Wilson had a match-high 17 kills for the Wildcats.
Set 1: The Huskers scored the first four points with Mauch serving, and two kills by Reilly and one by Murray made it 7-2. After Arizona cut it to 8-5, Allick, Landfair and Murray combined for four kills to go up 12-5. The Huskers continued to fire away, as kills by Allick and Adriano and an ace by Landfair made it 16-8. Murray posted two kills and back-to-back Adriano kills had NU on top, 22-13. The Huskers went on to win 25-19, hitting .441 in the set.
Set 2: The Huskers strung together four kills to go up 6-3, and after a Landfair kill, Allick had a kill and a solo block to make it 9-4. The Huskers held a 17-14 lead before surrendering a 4-0 run to the Wildcats that gave Arizona an 18-17 lead. NU answered with a 5-0 run to go ahead 22-18. Adriano had two kills and a block with Allick in that stretch. Murray and Jackson tallied kills for set point, 24-21, but two hitting errors let Arizona within 24-23. A Murray kill ended the set, 25-23.
Set 3: Reilly had back-to-back kills to help the Big Red to an 8-3 lead. A Jackson kill put NU up 15-9, and Landfair and Allick added kills for a 19-14 lead. Four more kills from Jackson and Murray, and a block by that duo made it 24-16. NU won 25-18.
