Nebraska’s Omar Ayoub joined a growing list of U20 World Medalists representing the Husker wrestling program after landing bronze at the World Championships for Puerto Rico at 61 kilograms in Bulgaria over the weekend.
Ayoub, a redshirt on Coach Mark Manning’s 2025 NCAA runner-up team at Nebraska, joined Husker teammates Camden McDanel (USA, 97 kg, bronze 2023) and LJ Araujo (Brazil, 79 kg, bronze 2024) in earning medals at U20 World Championships in recent years.
Ayoub defeated Russia’s Adlan Saitiev at 61 kg. Saitiev, the European silver medalist, led 6-0 in the opening minutes of the final match. Ayoub battled back with a takedown late in the first period. The Husker secured the comeback in the second period after holding the Russian to zero points and completing a series of takedowns to win bronze, 8-6.
A two-time Ohio state champion at 138 pounds at Dublin Coffman High School, Ayoub will be a redshirt freshman for the Huskers in 2025-26.
