Nebraska tight ends coach Marcus Satterfield met with members of the media following fall camp. Satterfield spoke on options for tight ends and new members of the team.
“All three, like Cayden Echternach, Danny King and Eric King were all kind of like right there fighting for that fourth spot,” he said. “They’re all coming in and working hard. That’s a really good room, a really tight room. They get along with each other, they work well with each other. Those three guys are going to have a chance to play at some point this year, but they’re going to keep battling it out.”
He addressed Mac Markway’s recent reinjury and how he is staying involved with the team.
“He comes and eats with us everyday,” he said. “He doesn’t come to all the meetings because he’s doing rehab in the training room. He’s around the guys all the time. He’s at practice. He’s on the sidelines. He helps me do personnel. He’s there helping coach the young guys. He’s staying involved. Once we heard what happened, it was a tragedy. We’re here for him and we’re going to get through it and we’re all going to be better for it.
Satterfield discussed Luke Lindenmeyer’s comments about Nebraska being “Tight End U.”
“I think it’s attainable,” he said. “I think we keep working towards it every single day. It doesn’t just happen in one year. It’s an accumulation of talent year after year through recruiting when people see what our offense looks like and how we’re utilizing the tight ends and all the things. You don’t just come here and line up off the ball and block the backside, inside zones. You get to run multiple run schemes and you have to learn to be a pass pro and you have to learn to be a route runner. You have to learn multiple positions. You have to give them big sets. You have to hear long play calls. I think you want to win and be developed at a tight end that can produce at the next level, this is going to be a great spot to come.”
