Ten Nebraska women’s gymnasts earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar distinction, the conference announced on Monday.
Katelyn Barth, Olivia Burns, Emalee Frost, Genesis Gibson, Lauren Homecillo, Whitney Jencks, Halle Rourke, Isabel Sikon, Emma Spence and Lucy Stanhope were the honorees.
Burns, Jencks, Rourke, Sikon and Stanhope all earned the award for the first time in their career. Barth, Frost, Gibson and Homecillo were recognized for the second time, while Spence was recognized for the third time.
In order to be a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, athletes must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades.
