Curtis Nearly Posts Double-Double in Loss to France at U20 EuroBasket

Nebraska freshman Leo Curtis will be in action this week, representing Iceland at the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket in Heraklion, Greece.

Curtis nearly posted a double-double in Iceland's loss to France on Sunday, as he tallied 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists. After two games, he is averaging 14.0 ppg on 48 percent shooting, including 36 percent from 3-poinr range, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, ranking among the top 20  in the tournament in in scoring (17th), rebounding (ninth) and assists (20th). 

Curtis and Iceland finish pool play on Monday against Slovenia. Tipff is set for 5 a.m. (CT) and the game will be available to watch live on the FIBA YouTube channel, and can also be accessed via the respective game pages on the FIBA U20 EuroBasket website.


Curtis opened tournament play with a strong effort in Iceland's loss to Serbia Saturday morning, finishing with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, nine rebounds and five assists. Curtis hit 7-of-12 shots from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and also added three steals and a blocked shot in 33 minutes of work. 

Iceland takes on France on Sunday, as pool play continues. Tipoff is set for 7:30 a.m. (CT) and the game will be available to watch live on the FIBA YouTube channel, and can also be accessed via the respective game pages on the FIBA U20 EuroBasket website.


Pool place takes place July 12-14, with the Round of 16 starting on July 16. Teams are seeded for the Round of 16 stage based on their group position. The competition will continue in the form of a bracket until the Final on July 20, with Classification Games also determining each of the 16 positions.

Curtis, a 7-foot-1, 220-pound forward from Reykjavik, Iceland, is representing his national team for the third straight summer. He previously played in the 2024 U20 EuroBasket and the 2023 U18 EuroBasket events. He spent most of June with the Huskers before heading to Iceland to train in preparation for the event.

Curtis came to the U.S. last season and played at CATS (Mass.) Academy, where he averaged 12.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.1 assists per game. He helped the school to a 28-7 record, a runner-up finish in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class AA tournament and a No. 5 national ranking. For his efforts, he was a first-team All-NEPSAC Class AA honoree.
