Two-time All-American Gena Jorgenson and Canadian Marissa Laurin will represent the Nebraska swimming and diving team at national events this week in hopes of qualifying for the World Aquatics Championships later this summer.
Jorgenson, a two-time first-team All-American for the Huskers in the 1,650 freestyle, will compete in the 800 freestyle at the Toyota USA National Championships in Indianapolis on Tuesday, June 3. The senior-to-be from Aberdeen, S.D., has earned the No. 8 seed in the event and will compete in the fastest heat in the evening final session at approximately 4:15 p.m. (CT).
Jorgenson will also compete in the 200 backstroke (June 4), 400 freestyle (June 6) and the 1,500 freestyle (June 7).
The Toyota USA National Championships serve as the qualifier for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships (July 27-August 3, Singapore) and the 2025 World University Games (July 17-23, Berlin).
In addition to Jorgenson's competitive schedule this week, Husker teammate Marissa Laurin will participate in the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, British Columbia, June 7-12. The trials serve as Canada's qualifier for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships.
Laurin, a sophomore-to-be from Grand Prairie, Alberta, will compete in the 200 backstroke on Wednesday, June 11.
