College Station, Texas - Berlyn Schutz broke the 1500m school record as the Nebraska track and field team qualified two more athletes to the NCAA Championships on Saturday, bringing the total to 13 after four days at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.
Schutz qualified for the NCAA Championships as she ran 4:11.01 in the 1500m to finish fourth, set a new personal best and etch her name in the Husker record books. Jenna Rogers also punched her ticket to Eugene, her eighth career NCAA trip, clearing 1.84m (6-0 ½) in the high jump. Four other Huskers competed in the event as Karsyn Leeling was 14th (1.81m, 5-11 ¼), Ela Velepec cleared a PR 1.81m (5-11 ¼) for 15th, and Brooklyn Miller and Riley Masten tied for 24th (1.76m, 5-9 ¼).
Darby Thomas ended her Husker career on a high note as she set a PR in the 100m and improved her second-fastest time in school history, 11.24, to place 16th. Kelsie Belquist competed in the 400m finals, finishing 21st and clocking a 53.33, and Ali Bainbridge ran 16:25.13 in the 5000m for 13th and Berlyn Schutz ran 16:59.03 for 42nd.
Velecia Williams jumped a personal-best 13.19m (43-3 ¼) to finish 17th in the triple jump. Four Huskers competed in the discus, but were unable to qualify and finish in the top 12, as Kalynn Meyer placed 17th (53.57m, 175-9), Amelia Flynt was 22nd (52.78m, 173-2), Kellyn Kortemeyer finished 23rd (52.75m, 173-0) and Lauren St. Peters threw 45.92m (150-8) for 44th.
The Huskers that earned bids will travel to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 11-14.
