Nebraska track and field added three NCAA qualifiers on Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in College Station, Texas, bringing the total to 11 through three days. Today was the final day of the men’s competition, as NU earned bids in the discus and high jump.
Five time USTFCCCA All-American Maxwell Otterdahl punched his ticket to Eugene in the second event of the week as he finished sixth in the discus, launching a PR and the eighth-farthest mark in school history (59.61m, 195-7). Cade Moran and Brett Schwartz also competed in the event as Moran placed 19th (56.73m, 186-1), and Schwartz was 22nd (56.47m, 185-3).
NCAA Champion Tyus Wilson will look to defend his high jump indoor title as he secured his NCAA Championship spot, finishing sixth and clearing 2.17m (7-1 ½). Desire Tonye-Nyemeck will make his NCAA debut as he cleared a PR 2.17m (7-1 ½) for ninth. Mason Kooi placed 18th (2.09m, 6-10 ¼), and Reid Nelson was 43rd (2.04m, 6-8 ¼).
The Husker women will close the week tomorrow with field events starting at 1 p.m. (CT) and running events beginning at 5 p.m. (CT).
