Nebraska track and field added a long jump First-Team All-American on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted in Boston, Mass. Till Steinforth's big first jump at the TRACK at new balance made him Nebraska’s first First-Team All-American in the long jump since Patrick Raedler in 2014.
Steinforth claimed seventh with a distance of 25-10 (7.87m). Two weeks ago, he won the Big Ten title in the long jump with a personal-best 26-2 ¾ (7.99m). That marks Steinforth’s third time honored as a First-Team All-American after placing fourth in the heptathlon and the decathlon at NCAAs last season.
Steinforth also competed in the first four events of the heptathlon on Friday, sitting in third with 3476 points. The junior from Saxony-Anhalt, Germany ran a 6.84 in the 60m to start with 940 points. He then recorded the farthest long jump mark with 25-6 (7.77m) to take the lead in the heptathlon standings. In the shot put section, Steinforth threw 46-1 ¼ (14.05m) and in the high jump, he cleared 6-6 ¾ (2.00m) to finish Friday in third. He’ll take on the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m tomorrow.
Darius Luff placed 14th in the 60m hurdles prelim with a time of 7.80.
The heptathlon will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (CT), while field events start at 12 p.m. (CT) and running events start at 3 p.m. (CT). The morning and afternoon sessions can be watched on ESPN+.
