One former Husker advanced to the quarterfinal, while another saw his Olympic run end, as Jack McVeigh and Keisei Tominaga were both in action Friday morning during the final round of group play in men’s basketball.
Australia nearly erased a 17-point halftime deficit but fell 77-71 to Greece. McVeigh played 10:44 off the bench and had three points on 1-of-3 shooting with one rebound. McVeigh has played in all three games at the Olympics, averaging 8.3 points per game on 47 percent shooting, including 7-of-14 from 3-point range, and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Even with the loss, Australia advanced to the quarterfinals following Canada’s 88-85 win over Spain on Friday. Australia, which finished finished second in Group A, will play Serbia in Tuesday's quarterfinal at 7:30 a.m. (central).
Japan saw its Olympic Games end with a 102-84 loss to Brazil this morning, finishing with an 0-3 mark. Tominaga saw his most extensive action of the Paris Olympics, finishing with two points and a steal in seven minutes off the bench. Tominaga played in all three games for Japan.
