Three Huskers Earn NTCA All-American Honors

Three members of the University of Nebraska bowling team were selected to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-American teams announced Thursday evening.

Sophomore Jillian Martin was a first-team honoree for the second time in her career, senior Kayla Verstraete was named to the third team for her third-career honor, while freshman Brenna Hartzler earned honorable-mention honors.

Martin garnered her second-straight first-team selection, a year after earning NTCA Rookie of the Year. She bowled in 44 games this season and averaged 205.1 pins, the highest by a Husker during the regular season. The sophomore posted three top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes, including a runner-up placement at the Flyer Classic. Martin averaged 200.0+ pins in six of the nine tournaments, and rolled a season-high 269 at the Prairie View A&M Invite.

Verstraete is honored for her third-career time, after being named to the second team in 2021 and the third team in 2022. The senior finished the 2023-24 season with an average of 202.9, highlighted by a first-place finish at the Prairie View A&M Invite. Verstraete added a 10th-place finish at the Northeast Classic and averaged 200.0+ pins in three of the nine tournaments this season.

Hartzler was selected for her first-career time, after being honored with a First Team All-Rookie selection in the central region. She competed in all nine regular-season tournaments, including all 46 games this season, as she was the only Husker to compete in every game this year. The freshman posted one top-five finish and four top-10 finishes, including a runner-up placement at the MOTIV Penguin Classic. Hartzler was the highest placing Husker in two tournaments this season, eclipsing the 1,000-pin mark in five of her nine tournaments.
