Huskers Honored for Academics

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's basketball team brought home a bevvy academic honors late in the season on its way to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and the Big Ten Championship Game.

Three Huskers earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, while eight Huskers claimed Academic All-Big Ten accolades.

Three-time All-Big Ten guard Jaz Shelley headlined the Husker academic hardware haul by claiming CSC Academic All-District honors for the second straight season while adding her second straight Academic All-Big Ten award. The graduate student pursuing a master's degree in journalism and mass communication advanced to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.

Graduate guard Maddie Krull and sophomore guard Callin Hake added CSC Academic All-District recognition while also claiming their first spots on the Academic All-Big Ten team. 

Senior Annika Stewart earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the third time in her Husker career, as did fourth-year junior Kendall Coley, while three-time All-Big Ten center Alexis Markowski and fellow juniors Kendall Moriarty and Allison Weidner claimed the second All-Big Ten awards of their careers.

It marked the third consecutive season that at least eight Husker women's basketball student-athletes have earned Academic All-Big Ten awards from the conference.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be on a varsity team, have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to its most recent academic honors, Nebraska women's basketball continues to set the standard in NCAA Division I Graduation Success Rate, posting a perfect 100 percent GSR for 19 consecutive years. Nebraska is the only program among the 14 Big Ten Conference schools to accomplish that feat since then NCAA began tracking the rate in 2004-05.
