Huskers Start Early at The Gator

The Nebraska men’s golf team travels south to compete at The Gator in Gainesville, Fla., Feb. 16-17.

The 16-team event, which is hosted by the University of Florida on the 6,701-yard, par-70 layout of the Mark Bostick Golf Course, begins Friday after the tournament was pushed up one day because of potential weather later in the weekend.

The teams will take to the course with a 6:50 a.m. shotgun start on Friday, Feb. 16 for two rounds, before closing with a final round on Saturday.

Top teams in the field include No. 23 Florida, No. 26 North Florida and No. 36 South Florida, along with UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Kentucky, Penn State, West Virginia, Liberty, Augusta and Navy. 

Nebraska is coming off a 10th-place finish at the 14-team Battle at Briar’s Creek in South Carolina to open the spring (Feb. 5-6).

Junior transfer Hamish Murray heads the Husker lineup after a top-20 performance at Briar’s Creek. Senior Evan Meyers will play out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup after matching Murray in a tie for 19th in South Carolina. 

Junior Harry Crockett, freshman Quinn Yost and senior Gentry Scheve round out the Husker contingent in Florida.

Murray Opens NU Career with Four Top 20 Finishes
Hamish Murray provided Nebraska with its most consistent presence during the fall campaign, posting four consecutive top-35 individual finishes to help the Huskers. The junior from Sydney, Australia, opened with three consecutive top-20 finishes, including a season-best tie for ninth in his Husker debut at the Bearcat Invitational (Sept. 18-19). He closed with a three-round score of 211 (-2) on a par-71, 7,279-yard layout at the Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati.
 
Murray produced a tie for 19th with a 215 (-1) at the Badger Invitational in Wisconsin (Oct. 1-3), before tying for 17th at Purdue with a 214 (+1).
 
Murray closed the fall with a tie for 33rd with an even-par 216 at the Everitt Buick GMC Classic in Little Rock, Ark., Oct. 16-17. 
 
He added his fourth top-20 effort by tying for 19th at 146 (73-73) in the rain-shortened Battle at Briar’s Creek in South Carolina (Feb. 5-6).
 
Through 14 rounds, Murray carries Nebraska’s best stroke average at 71.57.
 
Murray was ranked among the top 50 golfers in NCAA Division II by Golfstat in 2022-23 and was the Cameron Athlete of the Year across all sports.
