The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten) will compete in its first home meet on Saturday, Jan. 20 against the No. 22 Illinois Fighting Illini (5-1, 0-0 Big Ten). It is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. (CT) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and will be streamed on B1G+.

Saturday’s matchup marks the 42nd time that Nebraska and Illinois have met. NU holds a 29-12 lead in the series. The last time the two teams faced off was at the 2023 Big Ten Championships, when Illinois grabbed a 196.800-196.275 victory.
Last Time Out
The Huskers competed in the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad on Jan. 12, which was the first ever ESPN Events-hosted gymnastics meet. The team placed third out of four teams with an overall score of 195.875.
The Big Red enjoyed numerous career highs at the meet – Csenge Bácskay on floor (9.900) and vault (9.825), Martina Comin on floor (9.925), Isabel Sikon on beam (9.800) and Whitney Jencks on bars (9.800). Kinsey Davis tied her career high on bars with a 9.975, which won the event title. Davis also earned Big Ten Co-Event Specialist of the Week honors for her accomplishments. Sophia McClelland notched a 9.900 on beam to claim the title in that event.
Scouting the Competition
Illinois is ranked No. 22 in the Road to Nationals standings, with an average team score of 196.163 this season. The Fighting Illini are 5-1 on the season, with wins over Washington, San Jose State, West Virginia, Western Michigan and UW-Oshkosh.
Mia Takekawa led IU in its most recent quad meet, scoring team highs on both beam (9.900) and vault (9.825) and earning a 39.175 in the all-around.
