Corporal John Ingram (Lincoln, NE, U.S. Army, Korea)
Corporal John Ingram served active duty in the United States Army for 31 years. Arriving in Korea during the fall of 1952 he was in charge of a rocket launcher as part of the 2nd Rocket and Field Artillery Battery and spend 14 months in combat at the front line on the 38th parallel. Toward the end of his tour their position was over run and under heavy enemy fire he and his crew loaded 8 wounded men into their ammo truck and drove them to safety. He was hit several times but was kept safe by his flak jacket.
After the war he began his career at the University of Nebraska Athletics Facilities Maintenance Department in 1962 working as a master plumber and supervisor before retiring in 1993 after 31 years of service. He worked a total of 198 Husker football games.
