Former Husker guard Dalano Banton made his first start of the season for Boston Sunday night, helping the Celtics to a 113-103 win over Atlanta.
Banton, who signed with the Celtics in the offseason, tallied eight points, five rebounds, an assist, and just one turnover in 19 minutes of action after Jrue Holiday was unable to go because of injury.
“DB’s been in this league for a little while,” Jayson Tatum told Celtics.com after the game. “He knows how to play the game at a high level. And he’s part of that Stay-Ready Group. They come in every day, they get extra reps, they stay conditioned, and they work on their reads so that in times like this when guys are in and out of the lineup, we can just plug certain guys in and we can keep it rolling. He did well tonight, competed, made some big plays for us, and I was happy to see him get an opportunity.”
Banton, a second-round pick in 2021, spent his first two seasons with Toronto before signing with Boston in July. He is averaging 3.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in seven contests as the Celtics are 13-4 and enter the week with the best record in the NBA.
