Sergeant First Class Shawn Humphrey (Papillion, Neb., United States Army)

Sergeant First Class Shawn Humphrey (Ret) enlisted in the Army in 2002 as a Combat Medic. After completing Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training he was assigned to the 2nd Squadron 14th Cavalry Regiment in Ft Lewis Washington. SFC Humphrey deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005. Upon leaving active duty in 2006, SFC Humphrey joined the Nebraska Army National Guard where he continued to serve as a combat medic with the 313th Medical Company and deployed again in 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  After returning SFC Humphrey joined Golf Company 2-104th as a Flight Medic and attended the US Army Critical Care Flight Paramedic program. Upon completion he deployed again to the middle east in 2015. SFC Humphrey during his service also responded to multiple domestic emergencies including Hurricanes Irma and Florence, the Nebraska floods, and Covid-19 response.

SFC Humphrey’s badges and awards include the Combat Medic Badge, Army Basic Aircrew badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, 3 Army Commendation Medals, and 6 Army Achievement Medals. SFC Humphrey retired from the Guard in April 2022 and now works as a State Veterans Service Officer for the Nebraska Department of Veteran’s Affairs. He is joined today by his wife Shantel, who is currently serving in the Nebraska Army National Guard and his daughters Jordan and Eryn.
