Shepp, Wiedenhorn Head to ITA National Championships

The Nebraska men’s tennis team continues its 2023-24 fall season in San Diego, Calif., this week at the ITA National Championships, Nov. 1-5. Junior Anton Shepp and senior Nic Wiedenhorn will be representing NU in doubles.

Shepp and Wiedenhorn played together at the ITA Regional tournament where they reached the semifinals and compiled a 3-1 record.

The duo had a first round bye in doubles and dominated their second round match defeating New Mexico’s Daniil Kakhniuk and Arthur Bellegy, 8-2. The pair then faced teammates Rudi Christiansen and Calvin Mueller in the third round, advancing with the 8-7 (3) win. Shepp and Wiedenhorn then took on Arkansas-Fayetteville in the quarterfinals and defeated Alan Dau Franco and Melvin Manuel, winning 8-7 (6). Wiedenhorn and Shepp then faced Creighton Bluejays Alejandro Gandini and Matthew Lanahan in the tournament semifinal. The Big Red duo was outmatched by the Bluejays in a close match, falling 7-6 (2), 4-6, [8-10].

Shepp heads to San Diego with a 4-3 doubles record this fall season, his first with the Big Red, and 32 career doubles wins. Wiedenhorn enters the tournament with 33 career doubles wins, three this fall season.

The ITA National Fall Championships mark the finale of the fall collegiate tennis season. Thirty-two men’s doubles teams will be competing at the tournament.
