NU Heads to Los Angeles for 66th ITA Championships

The Nebraska men’s tennis team is headed to Los Angeles, Calif., to compete in the 66th Annual ITA Men’s Intercollegiate Championships, Oct. 26-29. Four Huskers are set to compete, Rudi Christiansen, Anton Shepp, Nikolay Sysoev and Nic Wiedenhorn.

Christiansen enters the tournament coming off a strong start to his senior season. Christiansen competed in his first fall matches of the season this past week in Stillwater. The senior played both singles and doubles, picking up three singles wins and two doubles wins. This season is Christiansen’s second at NU, after playing his first two seasons at Alabama. Last fall season, Christiansen went 7-3 in singles.

Shepp heads to Los Angeles after finding success on the doubles court in Stillwater with senior Wiedenhorn. The pair reached the ITA Regional Semifinals, tallying three wins as a duo. The SoCal Intercollegiate tournament will be Shepp’s third with NU this fall. This is Shepp’s first season with the Big Red, but the junior transfer is proving to be a fall tournament go-to.

Sysoev also competed in Stillwater, where he took one win in each singles and doubles. The sophomore transferred to NU this season, after spending his rookie year at New Mexico. With the Lobos, Sysoev picked up seven singles wins in spring competition and helped claim a team conference championship.

Wiedenhorn enters the tournament coming off his doubles success in Stillwater with Shepp. The Intercollegiate Championships will be the senior’s second tournament of this fall season, traveling to Los Angeles with three doubles wins and one singles win already under his belt. The 2022-23 season was Wiedenhorn’s best yet with NU, posting an 8-4 singles record.
