Huskers Ready for Platte River Rumble

The Nebraska cross country team continues its season at the Platte River Rumble on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Olsson XC Course at Mahoney State Park. Races are set to begin at 1 p.m. (CT) with the women’s 6K, followed by the men's 8K at 1:45 p.m. (CT).

Last Time Out
At the competitive Gans Creek Classic on Sept. 29, the Husker women secured the title with 86 team points. Freshmen duo Berlyn Schutz and Ali Bainbridge pitched in top performances for the Big Red during their first collegiate 6K races. Crossing the line at 20:43.8, Schutz claimed fifth while Bainbridge secured eighth with a 21:08.7. Schutz, a newcomer from Lincoln, started her freshman season with meet titles at the Augustana Twilight and the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational. Brynna McQuillen added an 11th-place finish (21:18.5) at Gans Creek, making it the first 6K race since the 2017 Greeno/Dirksen Invite that three Husker women have been featured in the top 15.

On Sept. 20, Schutz earned recognition as the Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week. She was the first Husker to win the weekly award since Alea Hardie on Oct. 5, 2022.

On the men’s side, Trevor Acton ran the 8K in 25:02.3 to place 39th in Columbia, Mo. Sam Kirchner added a 66th-place finish with a 25:30.3 and Cal Puskar placed 83rd with a time of 25:47.1. The team placed 15th with 341 points.
