Corporal Lee Sanks (Nebraska, United States Army)

Corporal Lee Sanks joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He served throughout France, Germany, and Austria in the 71st division of General Patton’s third army. As his division pushed their way through Austria to the Danube River, they were the U.S. Army’s furthest east forward deployed division. While serving in Germany he received the Bronze Star for his actions there. He returned home to Nebraska in the spring of 1947 where he met his wife, Delphine. A season ticket holder since 1943, Corporal Sanks watched Delphine play in the marching band at each game. Being a Husker football supporter for eight decades, we were honored to recognize Lee on his 100th birthday.
