Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule met with members of the media to preview Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech. Rhule discussed what it means to earn the right to play for Nebraska, and he also spoke on the possibility of rain at this Saturday’s game.
“It’s an absolute blessing to be here,” Rhule said. “We’re fortunate to be here and so I think that’s the message, that no one is promised anything. So, let’s make the most of today.”
He addressed what improvements look like after a win and how he best prepares the team for Saturday’s game.
“We have to play our best football every week,” he said. “Every week I challenge the teams to two things: go one and zero this week, and number two: improve. We did a lot of things wrong last week that no one noticed because we won, but we have to have the same urgency we had after Colorado. We have to improve every week.”
Rhule spoke on what goes into his thought process when deciding who gets to play.
“Oh, it’s simple,” Rhule said. “For me, it’s nothing else other than who I think has the best chance at every position. It’s nothing about you know, who’s established this, who’s done this. It’s about what we’ve done, what we need to do this week and who gives us the best chance to win.”
He also discussed the possibility of rain this Saturday’s game.
“You know the great thing about the University of Nebraska as you know, everyone’s going to show up no matter what,” he said. “I think about the people that come in and sit in the stands. I think about your family and friends, and I think about my family and friends. They can’t come and have us level the ball around. There’s a standard we have to play in a way that Coach Osborne will say it’s pleasing to the fans. I’m trying to make sure our guys understand there is no excuse for not playing Nebraska football. So, I welcome the rain. I prepared them all camp for the rain. I told them when it rains you better go out there and be like, ‘hey, we do this all the time’.”
Kickoff between the Huskers and the Bulldogs at Memorial Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. (CT) with live television coverage from BTN. The game can also be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
