Huskers Open Exhibition Play with 2-1 Victory

The Nebraska soccer team scored two goals in the second half to defeat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday night at Barbara Hibner Stadium.

In the first half, NU led in shots (8-3) and shots on goal (3-2), but failed to convert as the Jackrabbits took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Kayla Anderson was assisted by Avery LeBlanc for the first finish of the game.

Nebraska surged in the second half and netted the equalizer in the 73rd minute, when freshman Kayma Carpenter dribbled downfield and passed down the pitch to junior Sarah Weber, who put the ball in the top right corner of the net.

The Huskers took the lead and scored the game-winner just five minutes later, as Carpenter and Weber forced an own goal.

NU’s offense shone through, as the Huskers outshot SDSU by a margin of 13-6, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Nebraska continues exhibition play at home against Oklahoma on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
