Tominaga Named to Final World Cup Roster

Nebraska senior Keisei Tominaga was named to Japan’s final 12-man roster for the FIBA World Cup on Monday. 

Tominaga, a 6-foot-2 guard from Moriyama Nagoya Aichi, Japan, has been training with the national team since June in preparation for the event, which begins on Friday. Aug. 25.  Tominaga is among a handful of NCAA players on their national teams for the event. 

Japan has three final friendlies in preparation for the event, taking on Angola (Tuesday), France (Thursday) and Slovenia (Saturday) before their tournament opener against Germany. 

Last season, he earned All-Big Ten honors in 2022-23, averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. Tominaga totaled 22 double-figure games last season, including nine 20-point games. 

It will mark the third straight World Cup that has featured a Husker basketball player, as Tai Webster (New Zealand) competed in the 2014 and 2019 editions of the event.
