Nebraska men's golfer Gentry Scheve will compete at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village and the Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Aug. 14-20.
Scheve, a senior for the Huskers during the 2023-24 season, earned his spot in the 123rd U.S. Amateur by tying for second in a two-day qualifier (July 11-12) at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kan. A native of Emporia, Kan., Scheve fired a 69 (-3) in the first round before adding a 71 (-1) in the second round to close at 140 (-4).
Scheve will compete among 312 golfers from 41 states and 24 countries in the field at the U.S. Amateur, with golfers ranging in age from 14 to 61. Scheve will join Paul Fitzgerald and Lorenzo Rodriguez going off No. 1 at Cherry Hills CC at 3:42 p.m. (CT) on Monday, Aug. 14.
Scheve will join Fitzgerald and Rodriguez again for the second round of stroke play qualifying on Tuesday starting off No. 10 at the Colorado Golf Club at 10:12 a.m. (CT).
Match play begins on Wednesday, Aug. 16 for the 64 golfers who make the 36-hole stroke-play cut. Television coverage of the round of 64 will be provided by Peacock from 4 to 5 p.m. (CT), before Golf Channel coverage continues from 5 to 7 p.m.
