The Nebraska rifle team will face many of the top programs in the country, as the program announced its 2023-24 schedule on Monday.
The Huskers will face NCAA champion Alaska-Fairbanks and NCAA runner-up TCU during the 2023-24 campaign, as well as three other programs which competed at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
NU returns six-of-eight shooters from last year's sixth place team, including NCAA Smallbore champion and CRCA All-American Cecelia Ossi. She headlines a lineup which also features returning All-Americans Madelynn Erickson, Emma Rhode and Vittoria Watts along with returnees Mackenzie Strauch and Camilla Johannessen and freshman Charlotte Mick.
Nebraska will host four home matches, including a pair of matches with Alaska Fairbanks to open the season. The Huskers host the Nanooks on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1. NU will also host Ohio State on Oct. 7 and Georgia Southern on Jan. 21.
"We start off early and stay home for a couple weekends," said Head Coach Mindy Miles. "The match sandwiching the Michigan football game hopefully will bring in some interest from the public."
During the fall portion of the season, Nebraska will travel to Air Force, TCU, The Citadel, and West Virginia. The Huskers will face West Virginia, which placed fifth at the NCAA Championships, four times during the season.
"The last match of the fall, the invitational in Morgantown, is structured like the PRC Championships and NCAA Championships, which should provide some good practice for the following semester," Miles said. "The match includes finals on both days."
The team will open the spring season at Kentucky, return home for a match against Georgia Southern, and will travel to UTEP to close out the regular season before heading to Fort Wayne, Ind., for the Patriot Rifle Conference championships and Ohio State for an NCAA Qualifier match. The NCAA Championships will take place at the University of Kentucky on March 9-10.
