Evanston, Ill. – The No. 68 Nebraska women's tennis team (15-9, 4-7 Big Ten) fell to No. 74 Northwestern (11-12, 7-4 Big Ten) 4-0 at the Combe Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The action began with doubles play. In the No. 2 position, the team of Isabel Adrover Gallego and Ana Carmen Zamburek fell to Northwestern's Christina Hand and Sydney Pratt, 6-0. On Court 3, NU's Lucy Loy and Anfisa Danilchenko fell to Aino Alkio and Maria Shusharina, 6-2. The teams decided to conclude the doubles after Northwestern grabbed the doubles point and the match on Court 1 went unfinished.
The action continued in singles play. Carmen Zamburek fell to Briana Crowley on Court 3, 6-2, 6-2. In the No. 6 spot, Jillian Roa dropped the match to Northwestern's Alkio, 6-1, 6-1, putting Northwestern within one point of victory. Northwestern secured the win on Court 1 when Adrover Gallego was bested by Shusharina, 6-1, 7-5. The singles matches went unfinished on Courts 2, 4 and 5.
Up next, NU heads to the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., from Wednesday, April 26 through Sunday, April 30.
