Three Huskers Finish in Top-25 at Tiger Collegiate

Three Huskers finished in the top 25 as Nebraska closed out their record-setting run at the Tiger Collegiate in Columbia, Mo. Tuesday afternoon.

Nebraska was led by Gentry Scheve (Jr., Emporia, Kan.) who set new career-bests in three categories. His six-under 66 in his second round was the best round by any Nebraska golfer this season and two strokes off the school record set by Brady Schnell on March 20, 2006.

Scheve also set a new career-best aggregate score of 208 (-8), which led him to a 12th place finish, the best of his career.

Overall, all five Huskers in the lineup set or tied their career-low rounds navigating the Club at Old Hawthorne.  Along with Scheve, Will Marshall (68), Caleb Badura (68), Reed Malleck (69), and Davis Johnson (71) all set or tied their previous career-best round.

Aided by the best round in school history on Monday (274, -14), Nebraska concluded play with three-round tally of 844 (-20), their best mark of the season. This performance helped the Huskers earn a seventh place finish out of 14 teams.

Will Marshall (Elburn, Ill.) secured another top-25 effort (21st), his fourth of the 2022-23 campaign. Along with tying his personal-best four-under 68 in the second round, He posted two more sub-par rounds (71-71) to post an aggregate score of 210 (-6), another personal best for the senior.

Reed Malleck, along with tying his career-best three-under 69 in the second-round, set a new career-best 54-hole score (211, -5) and finished 25th, a new high watermark for the junior from York, Neb.

Freshman Davis Johnson, making his lineup debut for the Big Red, carded a 71 (-1) as apart of Nebraska's record-setting round Monday and finished tied for 47th with a three-round aggregate of 218 (+2), a career-best.

Caleb Badura, making his second straight lineup appearance, bounced back from a first-round 81 and tied his career-low round score with a four-under 68 in his second round before closing play with a 77 (+5).

Meanwhile, three more Huskers closed out play at the Stampede in Omaha, Neb., at the Indian Creek Golf Course. Grant Jabenis, despite a late charge up the leaderboard, finished second individually, two strokes behind Connor Wilson of UNO. He set a new career-best with a 67 (-5) in his second-round and finished with a 54-hole score of 210 (-6), also a career-best for the sophomore from Omaha.

Evan McDermott and Quinn Yost also competed at the Stampede, with McDermott finishing tied for 13th and Yost tied for 17th.

No. 5 Illinois captured the Tiger Collegiate Invitational title, shooting an astonishing 68-under par with a three-round score of 796 in one of the best performances in NCAA history. The Illini were led by Jackson Buchanan, who also won the individual award and shot a second-round 62 (-10), a course record.
