Husker Rifle Announces 2022-23 Schedule

Five home matches, including a contest against NCAA runner-up TCU, highlight the Nebraska rifle 2022-23 schedule released Thursday.

The Huskers, who return five shooters, including All-Americans Elena Flake and Cecelia Ossi, will be tested with five matches against NCAA qualifiers, including three at the NU Rifle Range. NU will host TCU on Jan. 21, and Air Force, which placed fifth at the NCAA Championships, on Oct. 22 and 23.  NU will also travel to Alaska Fairbanks for a pair of matches on Nov. 12-13.

In addition to the five returnees, NU also adds a trio of freshmen, including Camilla Johannessen, Emma Rhode and Vittoria Watts.

"I'm looking forward to the schedule this year," Head Coach Mindy Miles said. "We have intense periods of competitions and built in breaks for the student-athlete'srecovery."

The Huskers plan to open the season at home against UTEP on Saturday, Oct. 8. It is the first of seven matches during the fall. In addition to two home matches with Air Force, NU travels to The Citadel (Oct. 15), Georgia Southern (Oct. 16), Ohio State (Oct. 29) and Alaska-Fairbanks (Nov. 12-13).

During the spring portion of the season, Nebraska will shoot two home matches, including the match with TCU, which is the alma mater of Miles, who begins her second year in charge of the Husker program. NU also travels to Morehead State (Jan. 14) and has a home match against Ohio State (Jan. 28) before starting the postseason with the PRC Championships (Feb. 4-5) and the NCAA Qualifier (Feb. 18). The 2023 NCAA Championship takes place on March 10-11 at James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron, Ohio.

"The team will be in new locations including Georgia Southern University and Morehead State University," Miles said. "These are great opportunities for the student-athletes to learn flexibility and adaptability. We will also be competing in Alaska, which should be a great experience. The trip will allow them to experreriene a significant time change, which they will see again later in the season. Ohio State has great facilities that we are looking forward to shoot on for the NCAA Qualifiers. For both the NCAA Qualifiers and PRC Championships, we have the opportunity to shoot at the locations before the matches, which I hope works in our favor."
