Huskers Win 12 Titles in Arkansas

The Nebraska track and field team captured 12 event titles on Friday at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. 

Jenna Rogers won the women's high jump competition with a new personal best of 6-1 1/4 (1.86m). That mark is tied for fourth in NU outdoor history and ranks tied for fourth nationally this season. Her clearance was a John McDonnell Invitational meet record. 

Lishanna Ilves swept the long jump and triple jump titles. Ilves posted a long jump mark of 20-9 (6.32m), and then she followed up with a win in her first time doing the triple jump as a Husker with a leap of 41-7 1/4 (12.68m). The Husker women had six of the top seven finishers in the long jump and the top four finishers in the triple jump. 

The Husker men claimed the top five spots in the shot put, led by Alex Talley's winning throw of 62-10 1/2 (19.16m), which ranks eighth in NU outdoor history. Maxwell Otterdahl was the top collegiate finisher in the discus at 175-0 (53.34m).

Maddie Harris won the women's javelin throw with a mark of 170-2 (51.88m). Kalynn Meyer posted a first and third-place finish for the Huskers on Friday. Meyer won the discus title early in the day with a throw of 167-7 (51.09m). She followed that up with a bronze in the shot put at 47-8 (14.53m). 

Terrol Wilson and Micaylon Moore finished first and second, respectively, in the long jump. Wilson set a new personal best of 23-8 (7.21m) to win the event, while Moore jumped 23-4 3/4 (7.13m). Moore was also the triple jump runner-up, jumping 48-6 3/4 (14.80m). 

Mayson Conner earned gold in the men's high jump, clearing 6-9 3/4 (2.08m). 

On the track, Darius Luff earned his second straight 110-meter hurdles title, setting a new PR of 13.59, the No. 7 time in school history and the No. 6 time in the NCAA this season. Hannah Godwin was victorious in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best of 10:39.87, the No. 9 time in school history. And Kayla Hugg was the 400 meters champion with a time of 55.09.

Taya Skelton came in second to Godwin in the steeplechase with the No. 10 time in school history, 10:46.72. Brynna McQuillen was third with a PR 11:14.18. Winsome Harris was the runner-up in the women's 100-meter hurdles, recording a personal best of 13.97. Two Huskers finished third in the 100 meters. Lorenzo Paissan ran 10.54 on the men's side, while Emma Algarin ran 12.04 for the NU women. Nick Bryant ran a personal-best 47.90 in the 400 meters to place third in the race. Bailey Timmons also earned a third-place finish, running the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:28.07. The Husker women ran second in the 4x100-meter relay (47.02). 

Behind Ilves in the triple jump, Ashley McElmurry was the runner-up at 40-7 (12.37m), and Favour Wanjoku took third at 40-0 3/4 (12.21m), a personal best. McElmurry also placed third in the long jump at 19-10 3/4 (6.06m), while Darby Thomas was the runner-up at 20-1 3/4 (6.14m). 

Otterdahl (61-11, 18.87m) and Burger Lambrechts Jr. (61-2 3/4, 18.66m) were second and third, respectively, in the shot put. Riley Masten was the bronze medalist in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-8 3/4 (1.75m), a new personal best. Reid Nelson was third for the Husker men at 6-8 3/4 (2.05m). Tyler Brown took third place in the javelin (198-9, 60.59m). 

In the decathlon at the Jim Click Multis in Tucson, Ariz., Till Steinforth finished out a successful two days with a total of 7,473 points to finish third. The freshman from Germany recorded the No. 6 decathlon score in Nebraska outdoor history in his first collegiate competition. He set or tied personal bests in all 10 events. 

The Huskers are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla.
