Malebana Runs Sub-Four Mile

Senior Dais Malebana clocked the second-fastest mile on a 200-meter track in school history with a run of 3:59.88 to finish runner-up at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.

Malebana becomes the fourth Husker all-time to run a sub-four mile, while moving to fifth in the Big Ten this season.

Mayson Conner won the high jump with a season-best clearance of 7-3 1/4 (2.22m). Conner remains the Big Ten leader and the new height moves him into a tie for fourth nationally on the year. Michael Hoffer cleared 6-9 (2.06m) to finish third for the Big Red.

Jenna Rogers had a personal-best clearance of 6-0 3/4 (1.85m) to place second in the high jump invite and move into sixth nationally on the year. Rogers is tied for eighth in program history and the 6-0 3/4 clearance is the fifth-highest cleared mark in program history.

In the open high jump, Riley Masten placed third with a clearance of 5-7 3/4 (1.72m) and Madison Yerigan finished fifth (5-7 3/4, 1.72m).

Axelina Johansson recorded a victory in the shot put after a toss of 58-0 1/2 (17.69m). Taylor Latimer had a mark of 52-4 (15.95m) to finish third, while Marika Spencer came in eighth with a distance of 45-3 3/4 (13.81m).

Alex Talley had a runner-up finish in the shot put with a distance of 65-3 1/4 (19.89m). Burger Lambrechts Jr. came in sixth (62-10, 19.15m), followed by Maxwell Otterdahl with a seventh-place finish (61-4, 18.69m).

Ieva Turke and Garrison Hughes led the group of Huskers at the Gorilla Classic with wins in their respective events.

Turke won the triple jump with a leap of 41-5 (12.62m), while Favour Wanjoku finished eighth with a distance of 37-8 3/4 (11.50m).

Hughes grabbed the title in the pole vault invite with a height of 17-1 1/2 (5.22m). Drake Burton came in eighth with a four-way tie at 15-9 3/4 (4.82m).

With a clearance of 5-7 3/4 (1.72m), Brooklyn Miller finished third in the high jump invite. Madi Scholl also placed for the Huskers in the high jump invite, coming in sixth (5-6 1/2, 1.69m).

Jessica Gardner had a height of 12-11 3/4 (3.96m) to place fourth in the pole vault invite, followed by Andy Jacobs in fifth (12-11 3/4, 3.96m).

Passmore Mudundulu had a jump of 48-4 3/4 (14.75m) to finish fourth in the triple jump.

Tyler Drew ran an 8.16 to finish fourth in the 60m hurdles and Johanna Ilves clocked an 8.67 to finish seventh in the 60m hurdles on the women's side.
