Garrett Nelson Quotes (Wisconsin) - 11-19-22

Garrett Nelson
Nebraska Edge
Postgame Quotes vs. Wisconsin (Nov. 19, 2022)

On the two-point conversion stop
“You give the team a lot of juice when you get a two-point conversion stop, but thank you. It was not just me it was the rest of the guys. I was just the lucky guy to go hit him so thank you. It gives juice to the rest of the team go out there and get fired up.”

On the stop with five minutes left
“Usually in that time frame one of two things happen. You get a couple first downs and they have to take timeouts and it turns into four minute or two minute drill for our offense but just the mentality because if you don’t prepare to go back out there and you do, you are not doing well from the start, so just telling guys to be ready and get ready to go and understand that they will probably have to go out there again.”

On Wisconsin running the ball often
“When you are on the field for that long obviously those heavy guys start to lean on you a little bit. They run the ball a lot.”

On the third-and-goal sneak
“That is pretty normal of an offense to get that close and sneak it in.”

On Nebraska’s run defense
“The 200 rush yards is not ideal. We only broke it out. We wanted to eliminate the X plays because he did a really good job getting north and south with the film we watched. We wanted to eliminate those, and he has that ability that you saw to break it out of the stacker and hit an edge and we wanted to minimize or eliminate those. I do not even know how many times they ran the ball but when they run it that much and we are on the field that much it adds on those little runs.”

On balancing knowing they played hard and still falling short
“That is a great question. Sometimes in life you do not get the things that you think you deserve or earn. You do not always get your way all the time with life or football. There is a lot outside your control that I can not control and you have to realize that and the things you can you focus on those and how you can get better at those and master those. That is kind of where my brain goes to. How do I get better? How do I make other people better in our position group and lead with the things that I can control?"

On the message to the team going into the Iowa game
“They are Iowa. We obviously have a chip on our shoulder with those guys so staying together for one last week and cherishing these moments with the seniors and playing as hard as we can for one last game against Iowa.”
