Huskers Drop Dual at Kansas

Lawrence, Kan. - Shannon Stott cruised to titles in the 200 butterfly (2:03.65) and the 500 freestyle (5:00.33), but it wasn't enough to overcome Kansas, as Nebraska swimming and diving fell on Saturday, 157-143.

The 500 freestyle race was a highlight for the Huskers, as Gena Jorgenson finished less than a second behind Stott to take second place with a 5:00.74. Molly Rosenthal completed the top-three sweep for NU, finishing third with a 5:04.68. Jorgenson and Rosenthal teamed up to lead the distance corps and take the top two spots in the 1,000 freestyle earlier in the meet. Clocking a 10:14.79, Jorgenson swam to victory, while Rosenthal finished as runner-up with a 10:29.85.

Nebraska dominated in the 400 IM as well, with Sarah Barton winning the event in 4:29.48. Jorgenson, a freshman from Aberdeen, S.D., continued her impact with a runner-up effort in 4:29.48, while Berkeley Livingston added a third-place finish with a 4:30.06.

Maia Hall won the 200 breaststroke with a 2:21.25 and finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.82. JoJo Randby joined Hall in the 100 breaststroke top three, clocking a 1:05.58 to take second. Emily Haimes caps off NU's victories on the day, with a win in the 100 butterfly (56.67). That was Haimes' second-straight victory in the event, as she took the top spot at the Iowa dual on Oct. 21.

Lexi Kucera notched a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 (52.20) and 200 freestyle (1:52.97). Kansas' Ellie Wehrmann edged Kucera out in both events, clocking a 52.06 in the 100 freestyle and a 1:52.06 in the 200 freestyle.

Madesyn Ronquillio collected two second-place finishes of her own in the 100 (56.80) and 200 backstroke (2:05.13). Lezli Sisung claimed wins for the Jayhawks in both events, swimming a 55.97 in the 100 backstroke and a 2:04.06 in the 200 backstroke.

Barton added a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:04.78) and the 200 backstroke (2:05.90).

In the diving well, Reagan Hinze scored a 238.28 in the one-meter to finish as runner-up and a 285.23 in the three-meter to grab third. Lize Van Leeuwen was a major contributor for the Jayhawks, winning both diving events.
