Rifle Team Travels South for Weekend Matches

The Nebraska Rifle team will travel to Charleston, S.C., and Statesboro, Ga., for a pair of matches this weekend.The Huskers will face The Citadel on Saturday and Georgia Southern on Sunday. Saturday's match will begin at 8 a.m. central and Sunday's will begin at 12 p.m. central.

Nebraska will open its season this weekend, as its match against UTEP last weekend was canceled. That match was rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20.

"This weekend, we wish Cecelia good luck as she shoots her match in Cairo," said Head Coach Mindy Miles. "Meanwhile, in Charleston and Statesboro, our team will be looking to accomplish our individual goals. Each team member has a skill or process they will be refining between the two matches. The travel match will give the team an opportunity to jump right into the travel schedule for the season. Back to back matches can be difficult, because the athlete must be adaptive to the schedule and changing environments. I look forward to the freshmen's second chance at a duet."

The Huskers are 2-0 all-time against The Citadel, including a 4,677-4,544 victory last season. 

The team has never faced Georgia Southern.

The Huskers will be short-handed this weekend as All-American Cecelia Ossi will compete in the 2022 Rifle and Pistol World Championships in Cairo, Egypt. She will return for the Huskers' matches against Air Force. 

"Although I am excited to be here in Egypt and experience competition on an international level, I am sad that I will miss competing alongside the team in the first match of the year," Ossi said. "That being said, I have full confidence in the girls and their capabilities and am excited to watch them start our season off strong. GBR!"

Following the weekend's matches, Nebraska will return home for a pair of matches against Air Force on Oct. 22 and 23 at 8 a.m. both days.
