On the team win

"It's cool because me, Nick (Henrich) and Grant (Tagge) did a Murph for Mike Murphy, the Navy SEAL, during our bye week. It's been a running thing that they always talk about, about never being out of the fight. It's kind of what we were saying and preaching on the sideline. Never out of the fight. Chop wood, carry water. That's what we’ve been doing the past couple weeks as a team. It's a rough situation that we've been in obviously, but coming out and fighting like we did and fighting like we always do. Getting up, never being out of the fight. Super proud of those guys. Super proud of these coaches. These coaches have never given up on us. It’s awesome."

On the defensive performance
"I think a lot of it was cohesiveness of what we've been doing and getting everybody on the same page of what we're doing just fits or just mentality wise of what we want or what we are as a defense, and finally realizing that. Obviously, it's great when we show what we can do, and now we just got to carry that over in the coming weeks."

On how the win feels
"Pretty sweet. It's always fun to get a win, highest highs, especially for football. Can't ride that roller coaster and go all the way up and throw the ball all the way down. Just being a steady drumbeat as a leader, as a captain. Celebrating this, this is awesome, and we obviously want more of these, but we can't get too high or get too low."

On what the talk was like at halftime
"Just the same thing we've been saying. It's going to be a fight, and this is a Big 10 football game. It's going to be 60 minutes of fight and never being out of it. Always have to do your job. Go out there and focus on what we're doing and focus on that series or that play while you're in the moment. No major adjustments but reiterating what we’ve been doing."

On interim head coach Mickey Joseph’s first win
"It's pretty cool. I love Mickey, I'm going to ride with him. He's been put in a rough situation. He has been absolutely flourishing in that spot and taking care of us. Making sure we're all right mentally and physically. Bringing the mentality, bringing the energy. Understanding, in his spot, he's maximizing his spot right now which is phenomenal, and I love him. I love him to death. Even before he was the head coach, I loved him to death. I can't thank him enough for the guy he is and the coach he is. Like I said, sticking with us and my teammates. Sticking together and getting through this rough patch."

On interim defensive coordinator Bill Busch
Obviously new faces and new calls, things like that. I would give a lot of the praise to him because obviously he was in the same kind of situation with Mickey. He was brought in here for a different spot but got a bigger spot and bigger responsibilities and he’s flourishing in that role. Doing really well, doing a really good job. I give it up to my teammates for sticking with us and sticking with each other and sticking with me as a captain and as a player."
