Postgame Quotes vs. Oklahoma
Sept. 17, 2022

On the post-game locker room energy
"Obviously we're upset with the results. The guys are excited because we know we can improve every day and each week. We have a bye week coming up, and we're going to practice our tails off. We're going to pound the details to technique with everything we do to make this team a better team each day. Guys are obviously upset with the results of the game but are excited, too. We've got a lot of opportunities in front of us. I know this team. We're going to stay together. Guys love each other and guys love playing here."

On Oklahoma’s technique
"Oklahoma is a great football team. I think we all know that. They've got great athletes. Big dudes and great defensive backs. The guys are looping on defense. They're doing all different coverages, so I don't think we're crazy confused. But obviously it's a great defense. Coach Venables has been to Clemson so we've watched a lot of film on them. It's different every play, so that can be tough. But Oklahoma is a great football team so I give all credit to them."

On managing stress after staffing changes
"It was a mix of emotions. We all love Frost. He did a great job here. I love him. He's a father figure for me. But it's a business and personally, I know that with my dad being a coach, we have moved multiple times. Firings happen, it's a business. We are obviously upset, but we have to move on. Coach Mickey is a great coach. I love him to death and I'm glad he's on our football team. I can't wait for the future football program."

On Coach Joseph taking responsibility for the loss
"It's not on him, we're players. That's how we look at it. We don't point fingers in the locker room and on the field. He can say that he's a coach, and he's supposed to say that. But we all know that the players were the ones out there making plays. We're the ones out there playing each down so it's on us and we'll take responsibility for that."

On things to improve with the upcoming bye week
"Like I said before, technique, working drills, really hammering down on footwork, and running drills to help us on Saturdays. I think we moved the ball well, and I think we will continue to move the ball. We just have to put them together. I'm super excited for what opportunities we have in the future and we're gonna put it together during the bye week, pound it hard in practice, and get better each day."

On how hard it is to catch up when behind
“It's tough. Oklahoma has a great defense, like I've said before. In a sensible way we practice being ready multiple times so we're ready for it when it happens. It is what it is, if we start behind the chains in each drive, as an offense we have to work our way out of it.”

On sitting out the last two games
“It was not fun. Being hurt sucks, Especially with this being my last year, I want to take every chance I get to be on the field to go out there and play my heart out and be around these guys. I love this team. I love this group of guys. The relationships I have with these guys is unbelievable. It sucks, but I'm back, I'm healthy, and I'm ready to work over the bye week and get back out there.”

On a clean slate and a fresh voice for the team
“Coach Mickey said we started 0-0 with him being the coach, and I think that's good for us. We took away the blackshirts. We didn't do stuff like that, Coach Mickey changed the schedule up a little bit and I think that's good for us. Guys are adapting well and today just sucks. We're super excited for this bye week to get back out there and have another opportunity to be out there with the guys is something that I'm looking forward to.”

On Chubba Purdy
“Our quarterbacks are awesome, great dudes. Super happy for Chubba. Great, great dude. And I was happy he played well.”

On Purdy's mobility and change for blockers and receivers
“He likes to run, he's a fast dude. He's athletic, can run outside the pocket and stuff like that. When we're blocking, we need to make sure that we're staying on blocks longer. I think it's the same for any quarterback we have. We just got to stay on blocks longer, finish blocks, and just continue to do that while they're playing.”
