On Sunday, May 1st the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a Student-Athlete Formal with a theme of "A Night in New York City". The formal took place in the West Stadium Club and was a nice way to shake off the stress before Dead Week and Finals Week. Sam Phillips, Vice President/President-Elect of SAAC, came up with the idea as a way to unify the student-athletes who can often be siloed in their own teams. Phillips said, "I came up with the idea after going to a formal on campus. It was a lot of fun and got me thinking about how fun a student-athlete formal could be. As student-athletes, we dedicate so much time to our sports, that it can be hard to participate in everything that the campus has to offer. So, I wanted to create an opportunity for student-athletes to let loose in a safe and secure environment, and to unite as an athletic department."
Phillips is hoping to make this a new tradition here at Nebraska. "The formal went even better than I could have imagined. The food, decor, and DJ all helped to make an environment that the student-athletes really enjoyed. It was great to see all of the student-athletes from different sports dress up, take pictures, dance, and actually interact with each other. From sweats to dresses and cleats to dress shoes, it was such a fun experience, and I can't wait to do it again."
