Huskers Fall Just Short Against Badgers

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 73 Nebraska men's tennis team (5-13, 1-2 Big Ten) lost in a close match to the Wisconsin Badgers (8-8, 2-1 Big Ten), 4-3 at the Dillon Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Action started with doubles play as the No. 3 team of Patrick Cacciatore and Calvin Mueller dropped the opening match to Wisconsin's Mihailo Popovic and Lenhard Soha, 6-1. In the No. 1 spot, Victor Moreno Lozano and Nic Wiedenhorn knocked off the Badger's duo of Robin Parts and Sebastian Vile, 6-3. Wisconsin earned the doubles point in the No. 2 spot as Tim Dzhurinskiy and Jared Pratt bested Dario Huber and Shunya Maruyama, 6-3, for a 1-0 match lead.
 
In singles play, Lozano beat Dzhurinskiy in consecutive sets, 6-2, 6-2, to give the Huskers their first match point. William Gleason then proceeded to defeat Popovic in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-1, to secure his first singles win of the spring. Huber fought back from a second-set deficit to take the match in the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 7-5, and give Nebraska a 3-1 advantage.

Wisconsin then proceeded to take the final three singles matches to give the Badgers a 4-3 victory over the Huskers. Mueller and Maruyama both dropped close three-set matches to tie the game at three. Roni Hietaranta rallied back from a 4-2 deficit in the third set to tie it at four, but fell just short in the final set, 6-4.
 
Up next, the Huskers host a pair of conference opponents as Illinois visits on Friday at 5 p.m. CT, while the Huskers battle Northwestern on Sunday at Noon CT at the Dillon Tennis Center.
