NU Defeats Tigers to Wrap Up Weekend

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team (3-3, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated Memphis (7-2, 1-0 AAC) 4-1 on Sunday at the Dillon Tennis Center. 

The Huskers faced the Tigers in three doubles matches and six singles matches. To open the day, the No. 1 doubles team of Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric won over Memphis' Camila Romero and Alisha Reayer with a score of 6-3. Also gaining a doubles win in the No. 2 spot was Chloe Kuckelman and Isabel Adrover Gallego against Monique Woog and Meredith Jones, 6-2.  Rounding out doubles play was sophomores Samantha Alicea and Lucy Loy who battled Aran Teixido Garcia and Camila Soaresr and fell short, 2-6. 

To kick off singles play, Novak defeated Romero in a two-set battle at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4. Alicea won her match at No. 5, 6-4, 6-2. Adrover Gallego, out of the No.2 spot, dropped a two-set match 2-6, 2-6 to Memphis' Teixido Garcia. Freshman Jillian Roa fell short at the No. 6 spot in a two-set match to Meredith Jones. Makoric, in the No. 4 spot swept Woog 6-0, 6-4. At No. 3, Chloe fought hard against Reayer, 6-3, 6-5 UF. 

NU will return to home play on Saturday, Feb. 19 when they face Colorado State and South Dakota.
