Huskers Back in Action Against Akron

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska Rifle team will compete against the Akron Zips on Saturday following a two-month break. The match is slated to start at 8 a.m. at the Nebraska Rifle Range. 

The Huskers are ranked No. 10 in the CRCA top-20 rankings and have wins over No. 9 Ohio State, No. 15 Army and No. 18 Citadel.

Head Coach Mindy Miles said the team is back in the swing of things going into their first match of the spring portion of the season.

"The team returned to Lincoln for an early start to the semester. Practice has started well, and we are hitting the ground running for our first home match of the semester."

Before the break, the Huskers faced off against Air Force in a doubleheader and were defeated with scores of 4,691-4,708 and 4,678-4,701. 

The Zips hold a record of 2-5, with losses against Ole Miss, Army, TCU, Murray State and Kentucky. Their average aggregate score is 4,675. 

This weekend's match will honor the three seniors on the team: Kinga Aletto, Elena Flake and fifth-year senior Emily Cheramie. Cheramie has set the school record in air rifle with a 597 and has multiple All-American and GARC All-Conference honors. She also has been recognized for her academics. Aletto has been honored for her academics by the CRCA and the Big Ten. Flake has second and third team All-American honors and tied Cheramie for the school air rifle record of 597. She has also been honored for her academics. All three seniors have been recognized for their community service and leadership while on the team.

"They have all made significant contributions to the team during each of their four-plus years," Miles said.

Following the match against Akron, Nebraska will face off against Alaska Fairbanks in Fairbanks, Alaska.
