Nebraska men's tennis Head Coach Sean Maymi announced the signing of Roni Hietaranta on Monday. Hietaranta will join the program for the 2021-22 season.
"Roni will be a great addition to our team next fall," Coach Maymi said. "Coach Tom (Boysen) and I are excited to add someone with Roni's international tournament experience and success to the program. He moves extremely well on the court and can dictate points with his forehand. Roni is a terrific young man and will add value on and off the court to our team in the coming years."
Hailing from Lappeenranta, Finland, Hietaranta has won four singles and four doubles ITF Junior Tournament titles. In 2018, Hietaranta took both the singles and doubles titles at the Under-21 Finnish Championships.
Hietaranta on Nebraska:
"I chose the University of Nebraska because I feel like it provides the best opportunities to take my game to the next level. I think the tennis program fits me more than well, and I also think that Coaches Sean and Tom are taking very good care of the team. I am most excited about the competition during the matches and getting to know new people."
