Kirk Ferentz Quotes - 11-26-21

Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz
Opening statement

“To start out just really got a proper football team. A really gutty determined game played and they have really been doing this all season long. It was a tough week. We had a few challenges. Our medical staff gets a couple bouquets for the work they did. Really proud of our guys and the way they fought. I have been saying it is really tough to win in the Big Ten. It always has been. It always will be. This was no exception. Nebraska has played just everybody on the schedule tough. The losses are heartbreaking. This was no different for us. Special teams once again huge for us. We came out with three field goals and then just like last week with the kick return. The punt block for the touchdown today was huge. Henry Marchese was in the middle of both of those. Last week a huge block to spring Charlie (Jones) up the sideline and today being a vault in that. It is representative of our football team. A guy who has not started offensively or defensively but has been such a huge contributor on special teams for us and does a great job during the week helping the guys. I am proud of him and a lot of guys. They get the value and how important it is. Certainly happy with our offensive line and how they have developed in the last couple of weeks. Both sides of the ball we are really young. Got a little more traction today. We have a lot of young guys making contributions which is certainly helpful. All that being said I have been saying it is a 12 game season. That is why you wait until the end to evaluate and we still have some more football ahead of us. We will figure all of that however it goes but it is a special year any time you win 10 games playing in this conference. Really really proud of our guys. Happy for them. Proud of them.”

On switching from Alex Padilla to Spencer Petras
“There is really no thought process. It is probably more gut than thought. It just felt like maybe that would give us a little boost. Our running part we moving the ball three of our possessions. We moved the ball down there. We would come up short. It is like the Minnesota game a couple of weeks ago. We would get stops in the red zone that was a huge factor in the game and then today we are on the other end of it. They were converted their drives into touchdowns. We had three field goals. When that is going on you start thinking maybe this is not our day but fortunately our guys found a way to get it done.”
