Adrian Martinez
Quarterback
On Monday’s practice
“Strong. Obviously I heard Nouili elude to it a little bit. Guys bounced back well and have to come out with energy and refocus it on Ohio State.”
On how to move past the Purdue game
“(Coach) Verduzco has the 24-hour rule. I do my best to stick to that. 24 hours to celebrate or mourn or whatever it may be. Flush it, and move on, and for me it is all about focusing on the present moment. Yeah, that was a tough loss. A tough moment for myself, but I have another great opportunity. And some of that is putting things into perspective whether that be football itself or a game. I try to let it run its course, but Monday morning there is nothing on my mind except that next game.”
On the offensive potential
“I would not say I think of it that way. I know how close we are to playing how we are capable of playing. I know we have hit that stride a couple of times this year and in other times we have not been in sync. It is more of a matter of execution from all of us. It starts with me. My decision-making. Our line of receivers, running backs. It is 11 guys on the field. We know we are capable of that. It is just a matter of executing. We do not feel like we are far from that.”
On the last three Ohio State games
“It may sound cliché but I mean it, execution and that means quick decisions. Having that timer on and knowing that I have to be sharp accurate because they obviously have a really good team. Really good athletes on that side of the ball. They will make plays. Have to be sharp in all phases and that includes being sharp and accurate in decision makings.”
On the second play of the second half against Purdue
“We ran the play we were supposed to. That is how it was designed and that is how we ran it. Did not necessarily goes as planned, but that is how some things go. It is in our play sheet. It was on the game plan. It was not something we just came up with.”
On blocking out the noise
“Just about focus. Somewhat pride. A lot of guys on our team have it. A lot of guys care about this program, care about the individuals across from each other. We are brothers. We are going to continue to fight and that is what it is about. It is not about, he said, she said and who is giving us a chance. None of that stuff matters. It doesn’t. What matters is what we do. We know what we are capable of. The execution that it will take on Saturday for us to get the win.”
On Ohio State
“It is no secret that Ohio State is, I mean, I could not tell you their records, but they have won the Big Ten Championship probably several years now. Maybe in a row, maybe not. They have been dominant. So yeah, I would say they are the standard for the Big Ten really. I think every team circles them when they see them on the schedule.”
On the talent gap between Ohio State and Nebraska
“I would say it has changed. We have a lot of talent right now, and guys that I am confident in and we are confident in ourselves. I do not view it as a talent thing for us. It has to be execution. We have to go out there and be sharp. That is what the best teams do, and Ohio State has the talent and they are sharp as well.”
